SHASTA COUNTY, CA – A body has been found in the area of the Bully fire in Shasta County.

According to authorities, there have been 13 injuries and now one death attributed to the now 11,000 acre blaze. The body was discovered yesterday near a home north of Platina Road. Officials believe the victim was killed Friday trying to flee the area.

The fire started Friday, July 11, and quickly spread due to the dry conditions in the area.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection arrested 37-year-old Freddie Alexander Smoke III late Friday for allegedly starting the Bully fire.

Investigators believe the fire started when Smoke drove a large rental truck off-road and into an illegal marijuana grow site near Roaring Creek and Sargent roads. It appears the truck’s exhaust ignited the extremely dry grass.

As of this morning the fire had consumed close to 11,000 acres and destroyed 18 structures. There are currently 68 structures being threatened.

Cooler temperatures and higher humidity have brought some relief to firefighting efforts who have estimated the fire to be close to 50 percent contained.
